Facts about Drinking Alcohol

The popularity of drinking alcohol probably stems from its effects on the central nervous system that allows the drinker to become less inhibited.
Alcohol is also a muscle relaxant which explains the sense of relaxation that can accompany its consumption.

Drinking alcohol in small quantities can affect judgment and concentration levels.

Drinking alcohol in larger quantities can affect speech, memory, co-ordination, judgment and can cause sedation.

Drinking alcohol in extremely high quantities can cause loss of normal bodily functions and overwhelming emotions. Even loss of consciousness and death can occur as alcohol is effectively a poison.
Being tipsy or drunk is the direct result of its toxic effect on the various parts of the body.

Often damage to the liver can happen before the person is even aware.

Anyone drinking alcohol regularly can become alcohol dependent.

Long term alcohol drinking can cause physical symptoms and illnesses such as:

  • Hypertension
  • Impotence
  • Loss of libido
  • Fertility reduction
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
